The Cloiser Walk

Just outside the chapel door of the cloister walk there is a late fourteenth century French Gothic Limestone statue of Our Lady. The limestone was originally in color and slight traces of color can still be detected. It is a gift from the private collection of the Bauman Family.

In the corner of the cloister walk closest to the front hall stands a statue of St. Dominic from the original altar of St. Dominic in the chapel.

As one walks down the cloister walk in the opposite direction there is immediately observable a contemporary rendition of a twelfth century Madonna and Child brilliantly polychromed. Erich Hoffman of West Germany was commissioned to sculpt this statue in 1989, and the work was installed in February, 1991. The Dominican Friars conclude the Office with one of the most ancient traditions of the Order: the singing of the Salve Regina in procession from the chapel down the cloister walk.

The reliquary case that is in our cloister walk, houses much of the Priory's collection of relics. The relics include all twelve of the Apostles, the veil of the Blessed Virgin, the True Cross, as well as many different Dominican Saints.

This painting of St. Rose of Lima (1586 - 1617) is said to have been pinted from St. Rose's death mask, and therefore provides a realizstic image of her face. It was painted in Peru, perhaps in the 17th century.
