Pope Benedict on the Priest's Mission to Govern
Pope Benedict XVI at the conclusion of his General Audience on May 26, 2010.

During yesterday's General Audience, Pope Benedict XVI concluded his brief examination of the priest's exercise of the tria munera Christi---the three offices of Christ---by focusing on the pastor's duty to govern the portion of the Christian flock entrusted to him.  Like many of the texts he composes, the Pope's reflection is worth a slow and deliberate reading.  His remarks yesterday offer the…  » More

Saint Augustine of Canterbury (+604)
Icon of St. Gregory the Great and St. Augustine of Canterbury by the hand of a Monk of Chevetogne, Belgium.

The saint honored by the Church today held together in himself two aspects of the Church's life that at first glance appear disparate.  As a monk, St. Augustine observed diligently the rigors of the regular life.  He belonged to, and eventually became superior of, St. Andrew's Monastery in Rome, which had been established by St. Gregory the Great on his family's estate.  Soon after the monastery's…  » More

A meditation on the priesthood: the Sacred Heart of Jesus with St. Dominic holding the Eucharist. This window is located in St. Dominic's Church, Washington, D.C.

Among the many promotion initiatives undertaken by the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese of Boston, one of particular note is the "Christ Speaks in the City" lecture series.  Designed to reach financial and business professionals working in Downtown Boston, the series boldly offers substantial presentations of the faith in the heart of a very secularized culture.  For the lecture this past May…  » More

All Roads Lead to Rome
Fr. Rick Jastrzebski, O.P., Fr. Benedict Croell, O.P., and Fr. Anthony Giambrone, O.P.

According to the old saying, all roads lead to Rome. This has been true for many saints in the Church's history, including St. Dominic who traveled to Rome several times to gain the approval of his new order from Pope Honorius III. Since then, generations of Friars have followed in the footsteps of St. Dominic: to preach, to study, and to serve the Church in the shadow of the throne of St. Peter.…  » More

Pope Benedict on the Priest's Mission to Sanctify
Pope Benedict XVI blesses the faithful at the conclusion of his General Audience on May 5, 2010.

At Wednesday's General Audience, Pope Benedict XVI reprised his catechesis on the tria munera Christi--the three priestly offices of Christ.  His purpose in this series is to examine how the Church's pastors share in and exercise these offices, or tasks, in virtue of their reception of Holy Orders.  A few weeks ago, the Holy Father focused on the first of these offices, the munus docendi, the teaching…  » More
