Helen Alvaré, a distinguished law professor at Virginia's George Mason University, will deliver the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer's annual St. Albert's Day Lecture on November 12, 2009.
In her paper, Professor Alvaré will argue that Catholics have the right--indeed the duty--to bring faith-inspired and reasoned arguments into public debate. She herself practiced this very mode of argument during her tenure as the pro-life spokesperson for the American bishops. In recognition of her service to the Church, Pope Benedict XVI last year appointed Professor Alvaré to the Pontifical Council for the Laity.
The lecture will begin promptly at 7PM and will be followed by a question-and-answer session and a light reception in the priory. The church is located at E. 66th St. @ Lexington Ave. in New York City. For more information, please call the parish office at 212.744.2080 or view the flyer here.
