The "Museo del Prado" in Madrid Spain has an exhibit of Fr. Juan Bautista Maíno, O.P. (born in Pastrana in 1581-died in Madrid in 1649). It is said that in his works he approximated the "realism" of Caravaggio and the revised Italian Classisism of Annibale Carracci. Here is a link to a video on the Prado's website showing some of his works.

"A maestro waiting to be discovered" is how the Museo Nacional del Prado describes this 17th-century painter.  The museum hopes that this exhibition will  encourage the public to discover this artist's work. Maino's oeuvre, rich in colour and filled with strong, contrasting dark and light colours, will be shown alongside canvases by Caravaggio, Reni, el Greco and Velazquez, allowing the visitor to compare Maino's work with that of other artists.
