Fr. John Langlois, O.P., Vicar Provincial of the Province of Saint Joseph recently preached these words to the brethren who were installed in the Ministry of Acolyte at the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C.. Brothers Raphael Forbing, O.P., Charles Shonk, O.P., Vincent Ferrer Bagan, O.P., Cajetan Cuddy, O.P., Clement Dickie, O.P., Philip Neri Reese, O.P., and John Baptist Hoang, O.P. heard this prayer,
"Take this vessel with bread for the celebration of the Eucharist. Make your life worthy of your service at the table of the Lord and of His Church."

The Acolyte is called to serve at the altar, and it is a preparatory step - after the Ministry of Reader - for those who are in formation for the priesthood. Their service draws them closer to Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist.
