Fr. Shah was clothed in the Dominican habit in 2003 and ordained to the priesthood in 2009. His earlier studies were in religion, philosophy, and education. He is an adult convert. Before entering the Order, he worked for a high school run by the (French) Christian Brothers on the Lower East-Side, NY, NY; he taught in the Literature and Religion departments for three years. It was during this time that he discerned his call to an active, priestly ministry, focused on doctrinal preaching, and necessarily flowing from contemplative study and communal religious observance.

Today is an important day for the Church. The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Christ is a wonderful celebration of God's incarnate assumption and love of humanity. Today also marks the conclusion of the Year for Priests, which Pope Benedict XVI inaugurated a year ago on this feast, to inspire a renewal of priests' interior life of love and fidelity.
Today, the Province of St. Joseph will also be electing its new major superior. With a new Prior Provincial, we look forward with religious fidelity and evangelical fervor.
Hence, it is fitting that we look to those who have forged this exciting path for our province. Five men of our province celebrate sixty years of priesthood and fidelity - a fidelity that weathered turbulent political and cultural times at the ecclesial, global, and domestic levels.
Sixty years ago yesterday, Frs. Regis Heuschkel, O.P., Fred Hinnebusch, O.P., Alan Morris, O.P., Jimmy Murray, O.P., and Ralph Townsend, O.P. were ordained to the priesthood.
For those of us who know these men, we can say that they never retired from the life or the priesthood. May God reward them!
