The Dominican Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament, a community of cloistered Dominican nuns in Farmington Hills, MI, near Detroit, was featured today in an article and video by CBS Detroit. Fr. Valerian “Val” LaFrance, O.P., passed away in the early morning of Saturday, July 2, 2011, in Washington, DC. Fr. LaFrance was an internationally known itinerant preacher. In May 2010, a new preaching studio was dedicated at the Dominican House of Studies in honor of Fr. LaFrance.
Eternal rest grant unto your servant, Valerian, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for him.

Br. Boniface Endorf, O.P., and Br. Paul Marich, O.P., student brothers assigned to the Dominican House of Studies who are stationed at St. Patrick Church in Columbus, Ohio for the summer, were recently featured on "The Local Spotlight Show" with host Mary Ann Jepsen on St. Gabriel Catholic Radio 1580 AM in Columbus. The brothers talked about their own stories of vocational discernment, as well as the process of formation, study, and ministry in the Dominican Order. They were joined on the program by Gina Switzer, a parishioner of St. Patrick's and member of the St. Catherine of Siena Chapter of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic, who discussed the work of the Dominican laity.
Thirteen men will begin their formation in the Province of St. Joseph at the end of July, receiving the habit on August 8, 2011, the feast of St. Dominic.
