In today's edition of The Independent, Vicky Shaw reports that "an 'outstanding' collection of illuminated manuscripts previously owned by kings, bishops and the aristocracy is expected to fetch up to £16 million when it goes under the hammer."  She continues: "The private collection, which Christie's described as the most valuable of its kind ever to be offered at auction, includes the personal prayerbooks of King Francois I of France and Elizabeth de Bohun, great-grandmother of King Henry V of England."

One piece of the Arcana Collection, which has been assembled by an anonymous American businessman over the past three decades, includes a 13th-century Bible manuscript that was produced for a priory of Dominican Friars.  Click here for images of the collection.

Get your credit cards ready.  The auction begins in July 7th.
