Watch the NY Times video above about Fr. Paul Arinze who serves as an umpire at the U.S. Open and was a recent guest of the Dominicans on Sirius XM Radio. If players at the US Open knew their match was being officiated by a Catholic priest, they may have it in mind to curb their temper suggests The New York Times, as it introduces Father Paul Arinze, a clergyman and also a certified bronze badge umpire. Fr. Arinze works as director of vocations for the Diocese of Madison, Wis. Some of his fellow umpires address him as Father Paul, and on Sundays some follow him to St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan. Arinze does not pray for particularly unruly players, but he does say a prayer before each match, hoping that it will go smoothly, without incident."
