Looking south, we see the front of the old priory. At this corner, the refectory was on the first floor, a chapel on the second and the student recreation room on the third floor. In front of the house is a well and water pump. Novices were told to bring a thermos bottle for their ration of drinking water. The water piped into the priory came from the pond. Novices had rooms on the top floor with nothing but tiny windows near the floor for ventilation on hot summer nights. The tower had a bell with its rope in the stairwell. The exertator rang the bell for the Angelus, the Divine Office, classes and meals.
