"At the still point,
there the dance is.
Except for the point,
the still point,
there would be no dance
and there is only
the dance ...."
T. S. Eliot
In the
beginning,
the potter hovers over a formless mass,
waters it and sets it spinning.
When the whirring clay is centered
in the potter's hands
there is a stillness, an audible stillness,
that bespeaks the quiet rest
that precedes and follows
the work of creation.
Body, soul, and spirit,
earth, wind, and water,
are brought into harmony.
What was once a formless mass is given shape
by the unifying encircling energy of the Creator
in which the potter shares.
Both potter and pot are creatures
so we look for perfection in neither.
Only let each be a movement
towards the harmonious integration
of all things in Christ
and in some small way reflect
the silent beauty of the still point
-- where the dance is.
