Albert Paretsky was born in 1944 in Illinois. He converted to Christianity at age 26. He graduated from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts in 1966, and earned a Master of Arts from Harvard in 1969, specializing in Slavic Languages and Russian Literature. From 1970-1973, he served in the United States Marine Corps. In 1975 Albert entered the Dominican novitiate, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1981. From 1982 to 2001 Father Albert taught Scripture at the Pontifical Faculty of Saint Thomas in Rome (the "Angelicum"). He holds the Licentiate in Sacred Scripture (SSL) and the Doctorate in Sacred Theology (STD). Father Paretsky also served in rural pastoral ministry for three years in the diocese of Spokane. Currently he is teaching at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, California, while remaining a resource person for the Smithsonian Associates, lecturing on topics in Scripture and in Literature.
