The Postulancy Program is designed to provide men who have been accepted into the Order with a period of transition and gradual integration into the life of the novitiate. During this time (usually four weeks), the men are able to enjoy community in a relaxed atmosphere, free from the formal structures of novitiate.
The program is normally held at Providence College, in Providence, RI. The postulants are encouraged to learn, work, and recreate together and to assume responsibility for community prayer, meals, recreation, and limited ministry commitments. During the program, the postulants also participate in various workshops dealing with Catholic doctrine, and topics like group dynamics and communication skills.
During the course of the summer program, the postulants receive a great deal of feedback regarding their participation in the life of the community. Before the end of the program, the Director communicates his impressions of the group and its individual members to the Novice Master.
